Shawn Jakubowski Promoted to Head Coach of the Men's Cross Country Team

Berea, KY 

After the retirement of long-time Head Coach Mike Johnson, Coach Shawn Jakubowski will take over the Men's program after serving the last two years under Coach Johnson as an assistant for the Men's program.  

Dating back to his time at Tennessee Wesleyan College, Coach Jakubowski led the TWC Men's Cross Country Team to back-to-back AAC Conference runner-up finishes.  In 2014, the men were ranked as high as 4th in the NAIA national poll and went on the win the AAC Conference Championship and Coach Jakubowski was named AAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.  In his three years as the head coach at TWC, The Men's team competed twice at the NAIA National Championships where they finished 17th in 2013 and 11th in 2014.  As the head cross country coach at TWC Jakubowski had 26 NAIA cross country national qualifiers and one AAC individual conference champion.

While at Berea College, Coach Jakubowski has done nothing but continue to impress. In his two years at Berea College, Coach Jakubowski has won a USCAA National Head Coach of the Year for Women's Cross Country, as well as winning the National Championship in 2015 and a runner-up finish in 2016. Coach Jakubowski also led the Women's XC team to the USA South Conference title in 2017 and the Mid-Atlantic Independent Conference Championship for Men's and Women's Track and Field in 2018. So far in his two years at Berea College, Coach Jakubowski has coached 18 All-Americans, 16 All-Conferences, and 1 National Qualifier.

"I'm excited to take on this new challenge," New Men's XC Coach Shawn Jakubowski said. "I've been able to work with this team for the past few seasons as an assistant and I cannot wait to see what they can do this season. Coach [Mike] Johnson has done a great job of building this team and giving the Cross Country programs a winning culture, and I cannot wait to continue this legacy."

Coach Darryll Patrick will continue to be his assistant on the Men's as well as the Women's Cross Country team as well.
