Berea College Athletics Announces Nicole Yost as the New Head Softball Coach

BEREA, KY

Athletic Director Mark Cartmill announced the hire of Nicole Yost as the new Lady Mountaineer's head softball coach as she takes over for interim coach Ryan Hess.

 

Yost, who was the head softball coach was SUNY Potsdam helped improve the softball program from 2014 to 2018. During her tenure, SUNY Potsdam matched the program's single-season record for wins and recorded the most SUNY Athletic Conference wins. Her teams also break single-season records for runs scored, doubles, triples, walks, total bases, and earned run average. She also coached multiple players to SUNY Athletic Conference's first-team and second-team honors as well as All-Academic team selections.

 

"I am tremendously excited to be named the next head softball coach here at Berea College," said Coach Yost. "I want to thank Athletic Director Mark Cartmill, as well as the rest of the search committee, for giving me this incredible opportunity. I look forward to building a program that the Berea community can be proud of."

"She brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience and is a perfect fit to lead our softball program. We are very fortunate to have her as the first-ever full-time coach and look forward to watching the program grow under her leadership."

 

Before taking over the reins at SUNY Potsdam, Coach Yost served as a graduate assistant at Misericoridia University where she was the hitting and fielding instructor. During her time with the Cougars, they saw a seven-win improvement, going from 16-22 to 25-17 to reach the Freedom Conference and ECAC South playoffs.

 

Prior to her coaching career, Yost was a three-year captain and four-year starter for Mansfield University. She was a highly decorated player for the Mounties, being a first-team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference selection in 2009 and 2010 as well as being the Mounties Spring Athlete of the Year.

 

Yost, an Antes Fort, PA. native, earned her bachelor's degree in Secondary Education for Mathematics from Mansfield in 2011 and her master's in Instructional Technology from Misericordia University in 2014.

Yost will also serve as the Assistant Sports Information Director as well.
