After watching Asbury become 4-3 walk-off winners in game one, the baseball team rallied to win game two, 9-3.
The Mountaineers, who entered the day as the 7th-best hitting team in the nation, were stymied by Asbury starter Andrew Marquez. After scoring 119 runs in their past 11 games (10.8 rpg), Berea was able to plate just a single run in the 5th to tie the game 1-1. Asbury scored two runs in the 6th for the 3-1 advantage before Berea plated two of their own in the top of the 7th to knot the game 3-3. The Eagles scored with one out in the bottom of the 7th off Mountaineer starter Blake Sullivan, who suffered the loss. Sullivan scattered 10 hits and allowed four runs, three earned, while striking out eight Eagles.
Berea was again forced to play from behind in the second game. Down 2-0 in the 4th, the Mountaineers' bats came alive, as the team scored runs in the 4th and 5th to tie the game 2-2. Berea broke out with a four-run inning in the top of the 6th to put the game away and added three more in the 7th. Those runs were more than enough for starter Trent Hazelwood, who went the distance while surrendering nine hits and three runs. Hazelwood struck out seven and only walked one to earn the complete game win. Mikey Scott and Ryan Akins had two hits apiece and Blake Crowe drove home three runs for the Mountaineers, who are now 14-10 overall, 5-3 in conference play.
Berea will return home to face Shawnee State University Tuesday night in a single non-conference game. Game time is set for 5:00 PM.
