After having their first four games of the 2015 season "snowed out", the Mountaineers found the outcome of their first outing of the 2015 season to be less than desirable. BC traveled south to the metro Atlanta area and a three-game series with Georgia Gwinnett College (14-3).
Game One:
BC opened the series versus the ace of the GGC Staff. Ryan Minteer (3-0) shut out the Mountaineers through the six innings striking out seven and scattering two hits. BC was able to break through versus the GGC bullpen. Ryan Akins went 2-4, with one run scored; while Logan Hunt drove in two and Kenneth Cullings drove in one BC run. Patrick Elzinga (0-1) took the loss giving up nine runs (only five earned) on nine hits, while striking out three and walking two.
Game Two:
Brandon Gonzalez (0-1) would take the hill in the game two for the Blue Crew and his pitching would keep it close through the first two thirds of the game. Gonzalez would surrender five runs (four earned) through five innings as he struck out four Grizzlies. BC would score three runs in the top of the fourth to pull to within in one run. GGC would score three more runs in the home half of the sixth to put the game out of reach and secure the twin bill sweep. The Mountaineers were lead offensively by Akins who went 2-4 and scored, while Devin Belleville, Alex Helm and Hunt each registered an RBI.
The Mountaineers will tussle with the Grizzlies once more tomorrow in the finale of the three-game series at 1:00 pm.
