Berea, KY- The baseball team returned to the diamond for the conclusion of the three-game series against the visiting Alma College Scots. Berea won the doubleheader the teams played yesterday, winning two close games 5-4 and 2-1.

The game started off like the first game of the doubleheader yesterday with the Scots taking an early 2-0 lead as the Mountaineers came to the plate. Tough pitching by the Alma pitcher limited Berea's offensive opportunities as the Mountaineers were trailing 6-0 before their first hit of the game in the third inning from William Hislope. Josh Wilson walked, moving Hislope into scoring position before the next batter recorded an out to end the inning. The deficit became larger for Berea as the Scots scored six more runs in the fourth to move ahead 12-0 as the Mountaineers' offense continued to struggle. Hislope recorded his second hit of the game with his single with an out in the fifth inning. Nicholas Bottom reached base on a fielder's choice as Hislope was out at second and another offensive chance for Berea disappeared as the third out occurred. The bottom half of the final inning started off with a Nathaniel Summey double to put a runner in scoring position. Caleb Gupton reached base by getting hit by a pitch before the next out of the inning ended the game as the visiting team Alma won the final game of the series 25-0.

Hislope finished the game 2-3 from the plate and Summey finished with a double for the Mountaineers. Chad Brown started on the bump for the home team and was credited with the loss.

Berea (5-12) returns to the diamond at the Berea College Sports Complex on Thursday as they welcome Maranatha Baptist University. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 3:00 PM with the second game to follow after around 5:00 PM.
