Maryville, TN-  The conclusion of the three-game weekend series against future USA South Athletic Conference opponent occurred today. Berea was unable to put enough runs on the board to win and fell 14-2 in seven innings.

The leadoff hitter for the Mountaineers, Nathaniel Summey, opened the game with a single to left field but was stranded on base as the next three batters recorded outs. Berea found themselves trailing 4-0 as the game went to the second inning as the Scots scored four runs in their half of the first inning. The second inning began like the first with a William Hislope single only to be left on base as the next three batters recorded outs. The struggle at the plate continued for the Mountaineers as Maryville scored six more runs between the third and fourth inning. Berea finally broke through in the top of the fifth as Joshua Durbin was patient enough at the plate to earn a walk. The next two batters got out before Joshua Works came to the plate and hit a single, advancing Durbin to second base. Summey's second hit of the game scored Durbin to give the Mountaineers their first run of the game. Berea scored another run in the top of the sixth as a Ryan Blevens and Ron Overstreet singles along with a hit by pitch for Hislope loaded the bases. Cambridge Dacci reached base on a fielder's choice which stopped Blevens from scoring the second run of the game as he was caught out at home plate. Nicholas Bottom made up for it though with his RBI single to left field which allowed Overstreet to score. The inning ended though with the Mountaineers still trailing and the Scots went on to win by the final score of 14-2.

Summey led the way at the plate for Berea by finishing 2-4 with one RBI. Blevens, Overstreet, Hislope, Bottom and Works finished the game with a hit each to give the team a total of seven hits. Chad Brown started the game for the Mountaineers on the mound.

Berea (9-16) returns home to the Berea College Sports Complex to host Centre College in a game which was rescheduled because of rain this coming Tuesday. The action begins on the diamond at 6:00 PM.
