Berea Sweeps Wright State Lake

Dayton, OH- Berea College baseball travelled to Dayton Ohio to Wright State University to play Wright State Universities Lake campus at a neutral playing sight.  The Mountaineers went  2 for 2 this weekend as they get the sweep on Sunday. The Mountaineers had a strong weekend in all aspects as they won 5-2 in 9 innings the first game and 8-1 in 7 innings to sweep the double header.

Griffen Norris got the start in game one where he got his first win of the season. Griffen threw 5 and 1/3 innings where he gave up only 4 hits allowing 2 earned runs and racked up 4 strikeouts. Michael Smithers pitched in relief for the Mountaineers having a stellar outing as he threw 2 and 2/3 innings allowing only one hit and 0 earned runs while striking out 4 batters. Freshman Kelby Storm closed the game throwing one inning and racking up one strikeout. Offense was a team effort as eight Mountaineers recorded hits in the game. But the offense was led by Catcher Andrew Akins going 2 for 4 scoring one run, recording 2 RBI's and drew one walk. Nathaniel Summey also had 2 hits in the game going 2 for 5. Ryan Blevins had 1 RBI on two walks and Nicholas Bottom had 1RBI as well as 1 run scored.

In the second game on Sunday, junior Josh Wilson got the start as he recorded his first win of the year. Josh had an impressive outing throwing 6 and 1/3 innings allowing only one earned run on 4 hits and racking up 5 strikeouts. Senior Devin Belleville pitched in relief for the Mountaineers as he closed the game giving up 0 earned runs on 0 hits in the 2/3 of the last inning.  Offense was lead this game by Nicholas Bottom as he went 2 for 4 scoring 1 run and grabbing 1RBI. Ty Williams had a good day at the plate as he went 1-3 and accounted for 2 RBI's. Nathaniel Summey, Ryan Blevins, and Caleb Gupton all had 1 hit a piece leading the Mountaineers to their sweep over Wright State Lake.

The Mountaineers will travel to 3-4 Piedmont with a 2-4 record as they start their conference play this weekend. The games will be played on Saturday, February 24 at 2:00 and 4:00pm and Sunday February 25 at 1:00pm.
