Baseball Falls To LaGrange in Three Game Series

Berea, KY- Berea College baseball had another tough weekend this weekend as they took 3 losses to LaGrange College in their home series. They got off to a rough start in the first game taking a 17-0 loss in which they were able to grab 6 hits but could not produce any runs. The pitching staff gave up 17 earned runs on 19 hits in the outing. Griffen Norris started the game on the mound and was followed up by relief pitcher Aaron Duncan and Bailor Manire who threw the last inning. The second game off Friday was more competitive for the Mountaineers as they led the game 3-1 until the 5th where the Lions picked up a 4 run inning followed by a 10 run inning in the 6th that sealed the deal. The Mountaineers picked up 5 runs on 10 hits in the game. Offense was led by Nathaniel Summey who went 3 for 5 at the plate with 2 RBI's. Freshman T.C. Eads went 2 for 2 in the game, and Devin Bellville and Andrew Akins each went 2 for 4 in the outing. Senior pitcher Michael Smithers got the start on the mound for the Mountaineers where he gave up 4 earned runs on 8 hits in 5 and 1/3 innings pitcher. Zach Withers and Dylan Sallee pitcher in relief for the Mountaineers giving up 10 earned runs on 10 hits. Chandler Lynn finished the game on the bump for Berea throwing 2/3 of an inning giving up 0 hits and 0 earned runs.

The final game of the weekend was a close one that was plagued by rare errors for the Mountaineers. Berea lost 4-0 picking up 5 hits and giving up 4 errors. Andrew Akins went 2 for 4 at the plate and Nathaniel Summey went 1 for 3. Devin Bellville and Tanner Crowe went 1 for 4 in the matchup. Freshman Kelby storm had a quality start on the mound for the Mountaineers giving up just 2 runs on 8 hits through 7 and 1/3 innings pitched. T.C Eads finished the game throwing 1 and 2/3 innings, giving up 1 hit and 0 earned runs. The Mountaineers have  had a tough season this far but have some good points as Andrew Akins and Nathaniel Summey are both hitting well over .300 and Devin Bellville has been on a tear over the last couple weeks getting his batting average just over .300 as well.

Berea will be back in action on Tuesday, March 27th as they travel to Alice Llyod to play in a mid-week doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled to be at 1:00pm.
