Mountaineers Sweep Eagles in Two Game Series

Mountaineer baseball improved their record on Tuesday, March 27th by taking two wins against the Alice Lloyd Eagles. The first game of the day was a close one as the Mountaineers held on to a 2-1 lead that they stole in the 4th inning. Berea had 10 hits in the game where the offense pretty universal but the two offensive performances that stand out from the game were Freshmen Tanner Crowe who went 2 for 4 and scored one run, and Ty Williams who went 2-3 in the outing. Senior pitcher Michael Smithers got the start in game one where he had his best performance of the year throwing 5 innings only giving up 3 hits and 0 earned runs. Devin Belleville closed the game for Berea throwing 2 innings allowing 0 hits and 0 runs.

The second game was a little more comfortable of a win for Berea as they won 5-1 after trailing 0-1 through the 4th inning. Offensively, Senior Nathaniel Summey led the way getting 4 of the teams 7 hits in the game while going 4 for 4 with a long ball to left center field. Aaron Duncan got the start on the mound where he as well had his most impressive performance of the season throwing for 4 innings while only giving up 5 hits and 1 earned run. T.C. Eads followed him up out of the pen throwing 3 innings giving up 0 hits, 0 runs, and racking up 3 quick strikeouts.

The Mountaineers are back in action Friday, March 30th when they play Maryville College.
