Mountaineer Can't Pick Up Win Against Scots

Maryville, TN- Berea College Baseball took 3 tough losses in Maryville, TN against the Scots who are among the conference leaders this year. The Mountaineers were coming off of a two game sweep against Alice Lloyd. Berea had a closely contested weekend that resulted in 3 hard fought losses added to the record.

Freshman Kelby Storm got the start in game one where he had a fair outing, allowing 6 earned runs on 7 hits in his 8 innings pitched to keep the Mountaineers in contention. He was followed up out of the bullpen by Josh Wilson who also had a solid outing allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits in 3 innings pitched. While the pitching staff contained the Scots they could not get quite enough run support to come away with the win. Highlights on offense came from two freshmen, Ty Williams and TC Eads. Williams went 2 for 4 in the contest racking of 3 of the teams 4 RBI's. TC Eads finished the game going 3 for 4 and accounted for the remaining RBI.

Griffen Norris got the start in game two with an impressive outing allowing only 3 earned runs on 5 hits in 6 innings pitched. Aaron Duncan followed suit out of the pen where he gave up just 1 earned run on 2 hits in the last 2 innings of the game. Again run support lacked just one run as they lost the contest 4-3. The offense was led by Nathaniel Summey and Nicholas Bottom who each went 2 for 4 in the contest where Summey grabbed 1 RBI as well. TC Eads also had 1 RBI and went 1 for 4 in the game.

The third game was less closely contested by the Mountaineers as they fell to the Scotts 11-1. Michael Smithers got the start on the mound and was followed by a plethora of pitchers including Zach Withers, Dylan Sallee, Jalen Prater, and Baylor Manire. Devin Belliville, Ryan Blevins, Ty Williams, Andrew Akins, Seth Wallingford, Nicholas Bottom, and Tanner Crowe all had one hit each for the Mountaineers but could not seem to string anything together as they only produced 1 total run in the game.

The Mountaineers host Asbury University this Tuesday.
