Weather Forces Mountaineers to Tie Eagles

Berea, KY - Berea College baseball took on Asbury on Tuesday, April 3rd. The game looked like it may be a long one for the Mountaineers after giving up 6 runs in the 2nd inning, but they managed to battle back and tie the game in the bottom of the 7th at 13-13. The Eagles scored one run in the 8th but Berea followed with one run in the 9th to tie the game up once again. Both teams went scoreless in the 10th before Berea gave up one run to the Eagle in the top of the 11th. The bottom of the 11th started off good as Nathaniel Summey got to first when disaster stuck. Tornado warnings were given throughout the area and the storm began. Berea was forced by rule to take a draw in the contest because the ruling is that the game goes back to the last full inning, which results in a 14-14 tie in the 10th inning. The was called in the bottom of the 11th with Berea down by one with a runner on first and 1 out with Senior Devin Belleville up to bat who was 5 for 6 at the plate in the contest.

T.C. Eads got the start on the mound for the Mountaineers but 5 pitchers threw for Berea in the contest including Aaron Duncan, Kelby Storm, Baylor Manire, and Devin Belleville. All pitchers had fair outings but batting is what really kept Berea in the game on this occasion. Devin Belleville had the night of his career going 5 for 6 with 3 RBI's. Nicholas Bottom had a day as well in his 3 for 5 outing racking up 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored with a homer to left field. Ryan Blevins went 2 for 3 in the contest and Tanner Crowe went 2 for 4. The rest of the starters all had 1 hit each.

Overall it was a hard fought game for the Mountaineers that sadly ended in a very unusual manner. The Mountaineers will look to improve their record this weekend in their 3 game home series against Huntington.
