Montgomery, AL- The Berea College Baseball rounded out the Firehouse Classic in Montgomery, AL. with a victory against Guilford College. Sophomore, T.C. Eads, got the win in his 2019 debut, and the squad came out firing on all cylinders in a 7-3 victory.

Berea set the tone for the game in the 1st inning. Being the home team, the Mountaineers were in the field first and completed the inning 3 up, 3 down. The men came into the dugout and stepped into the box with a bolt of energy. Sophomore, Ty Williams, led the bottom half of the inning with a stand-up double with a one-hop to dead center. Guilford then committed a fielding error, and the Mountaineers were cooking. They got 1 in the 1st, 2 in the 2nd, and continued their scoring bursts throughout the game (2 in the 6th, 1 in the 7th, and 1 in the 8th).

Berea combined for 9 hits with freshman, Isaac Peters, going 3-4, and Junior, Cam Dacci, also going 3-4. Captain, Andrew Akins, Junior, Nick Bottom, and Sophomore, Ty Williams, each also added a hit. Tanner Crowe led the RBI efforts with 2, and Junior, Seth Wallingford, was called to sacrifice bunt all 4 of his plate appearances – the last resulting in a suicide squeeze, scoring Jordan Beard.

On the bump, Eads was focused for all 7 of his quality innings. Only allowing 6 hits, and striking out 5, Eads, only allowed 3 runs in 31 batters faced. Dylan Sallee, came in the 8th to setup Baylor Manire. Both completed their innings allowing zero hits, and zero runs.

Berea will be back in action next weekend, February 16th and 17th at Centre College. The double-header on Saturday, begins at 12:00pm. Sunday's start will take place at 1:00pm.
