BEREA, KY- The Berea College Baseball team hosted in-state opponent, Asbury University in a one game contest Wednesday. The Mountaineers put together a solid effort, but were defeated by the Eagles in the 9 inning contest, 9-7.   

Berea utilized their pitching staff in the non-conference matchup. Freshman Brendan Grider got the start for the Mountaineers and tossed an impressive 1st inning. Grider recorded the first three outs in order, striking out all three on 12 pitches. He went on to pitch 2 more innings and only gave up 3 runs. Aaron Duncan got the ball to pitch the next 2.2 innings. The junior recorded a noteworthy 5 pitch inning in the 5th. Sophomore T.C. Eads got the final 3.1 innings and provided a solid outing.

The Mountaineers combined for 7 runs on 11 hits. Freshmen Isaac Peters and Bryce Wallingford each contributed 1. Sophomores, T.C. Eads (2), Ty Williams (1), Logan Gayheart (1), and Tanner Crowe (1), combined for 5 hits. Juniors Cam, Dacci and Nick Bottom each had 1 hit. Finally, senior back-stop Andrew Akins had a multi-hit day, including a leadoff triple in the 4th.

Berea will be back in action this weekend, hosting conference opponent Piedmont College. The Lions and Mountaineers will dual it out over the course of three days, with a game taking place each day over the three day series. First pitch for Friday is set for 6:00pm.
