Berea, KY. – The Berea College men's basketball team hosted Eureka College Saturday night during homecoming weekend at the Seabury Center. The Mountaineers pushed their winning streak to three straight games after a 90-88 thriller over the Red Devils. Torell Carter led the Mountaineers with 29 points and nine rebounds, while Gabe Hinton recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 boards.

The teams went basket-for-basket throughout the entire game with neither team leading for more than eight points. However, the Mountaineers held the lead for most of the first half and headed into the locker room with a slight, 50-46 advantage on Eureka.

The second half was much of the same, but it was Hank Thomas of the Red Devils that gave Berea the most trouble scoring 19 points in the second half alone. Despite not shooting well from the field, the Mountaineers found themselves with the ball and the scored tied at 88 with 34 seconds remaining in the game.

The ball was placed in the hands of Torell Carter, who was already having a career night. Carter dribbled the ball at the top of the key to let some time burn off of the clock in order to leave as little time possible for the Red Devils. With time running out, Carter slashed into the lane and finished a left-handed layup over two defenders to give the Mountaineers the 90-88 lead and eventual victory. The Mountaineers swarmed Eureka preventing them from getting a good look at scoring on the final shot of the game and it was Berea that secured the rebound as time expired.

Isaac Caudill put up 14 points for Berea, while Mitchell Embree finished with 13 points and seven boards.

The Berea College men's basketball team will finish out their four-game home stretch today as the Mountaineers host the Johnson University Royals at 7:00 p.m.
