Mountaineers Drop Second Straight Road Game

Score: Methodist 74, Berea 66

Records: Methodist 3-5, Berea 5-2

Fayetteville, NC – After starting the season 5-0, the Berea College men's basketball team has now dropped two straight road games after falling to the Methodist University Monarchs 74-66. Freshman Isaac Caudill led the Mountaineers with 12 points and 9 rebounds while Torell Carter added 12 points as well.

The Mountaineers got off to a slow start and could not find a way to get into their rhythm offensively in the first half. Defense was the story of the first half, as the Mountaineers held the Monarchs to under 40 percent shooting from the field and forced 10 turnovers in the first half. However, despite the solid play on the defensive side of the ball, Berea and Methodist went into the break tied up at 31 a piece.

The second half was a different story. After jumping out to an early 6-point lead to start the second half, the Monarchs responded with a 19-2 run giving them an 11-point lead halfway through the second half. Because of the Mountaineers 10 second half turnovers, coupled with the fact that they were outrebounded 45-33 throughout the game, the Mountaineers were unable to pull out a conference win on the road. The Methodist Monarchs would go on to win 74-66 behind the 14 points and 8 rebounds of Kaymon Mitchell.

Gabe Hinton contributed 11 points for the Mountaineers and Deandre Lightfoot would add 9 points of his own.

The Mountaineers have a quick turnaround as they take on the Greensboro College Pride on Sunday, December 2 at 2:00 PM in Greensboro, North Carolina.
