Berea Regains Victory Against Brevard

Berea, KY- The men's basketball team hosted conference opponent Brevard College Wednesday evening. The Mountaineers were victorious in their effort with a score of 67-53, and improved their record to (8-8, and a conference record of 3-6).

Berea was once again without senior Gabe Hinton, and freshman Andrew Doty continued his productivity in the starting role. Also, freshman Isaac Caudill had another stellar performance solidifying his place as one of the top rookies in the USA South. Finally, sophomore Torell Carter came out with a remarkable 2nd half after a slow start. Add in all of Berea's production and it left no room for defeat. The final score indicated Berea's dominance – 67-53.

The Mountaineers started sharp connecting on an early 11-4 lead on the tornadoes. Brevard made a small run on the Mountaineers later in the 1st half but Berea capped out the half with a 10 point advantage (30-20). 5 minutes into the final half, Berea had stretched the lead to 16 (39-23). From there, Berea never looked back. They pushed onto a 21 point margin, thanks to some gritty defensive work, and captured the win with 14 point advantage.   

Freshman Isaac Caudill leaded all scorers with 24 points and added an impressive 9 defensive boards. Add in sophomore Torell Carter's 18 and 9, with freshman Andrew Doty's 14 and 9. The three accounted for 56 of the team's 67.

As a team the Mountaineers connected for 40% shooting from 20 makes on 50 attempts. From deep, Berea shot a pure 39% on (9) 3pm – (23) 3pa. And from the charity stripe, an overpowering 78%.

The home victory was much needed for the Mountaineer squad, and they will look towards another Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm, in a conference match up against Maryville College at the Seabury center.
