Berea, KY – The Berea College Mountaineers fall short against the Maryville College Scots for the second time this season after losing at home 67-62 on Tuesday. The Scots were led by Kaleb Estes who finished with 18 points and 4 rebounds.

Both teams fought back and forth throughout the entire game and neither team was able to pull away by more than 6 points in the first half. The Mountaineers and the Scots locked down on the defensive side as a total of 18 turnovers were forced in the first half alone. Because of their rebounding and defense, the Mountaineers found themselves up at halftime 31-30.

The Mountaineers continued to fight hard on defense but their struggles on the offensive side persisted shooting 34 percent from the field and only 10 percent from beyond the arch. Torell Carter kept the Mountaineers in it scoring 9 points and pulling down 11 boards in the second half. However, it was just not quite enough as the Maryville Scots found a way to pull out a 67-62 conference victory on the road.

Torell Carter led the Mountaineers with 15 points and 13 rebounds while Deandre Lightfoot and Isaac Caudill added 12 and 10 points along with 5 rebounds each.

The Berea Mountaineers will be on the road this weekend and hope to improve their conference record with a win at Piedmont College. That game will be Saturday, January 26 and will begin at 2:00 PM Eastern time.
