Danville, VA. – The Berea College men's basketball team closed out their season on Saturday with an 81-71 loss on the road to the Averett University Cougars. The Mountaineers finished out the season with 5 straight losses and four of those losses came by 10 points or less.

The Mountaineers played well in the first half as they shot 60 percent from the field. Isaac Caudill came to play scoring 18 points while Torell Carter added 10 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds. However, despite the big play from Carter and Caudill, the Mountaineers were only up 42-40 at halftime.

Coming out in the second half, the Mountaineers held their lead for a while but could not get anything to fall. Berea went 0-9 from the three-point line and only shot 36 percent from the field in the second half. The Cougars slowly climbed back from being down and eventually took the lead with 11 minutes to play. The Cougars did not give up the lead for the rest of the game and rolled to an 81-71 victory over the Mountaineers.

Berea was led by Isaac Caudill who finished with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists and Torell Carter who ended with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists.

The Mountaineers finished the season with an 11-14 record and a 6-12 record in the USA South Athletic Conference. Berea improved on last year's overall record of 7-17 and 3-13 conference record but will miss out post-season play for the second straight season.
