Mountaineers Comeback on Homecoming Night

BEREA, KY. – Berea College men's basketball team defeated Campbellsville University-Somerset on homecoming night 82-71 at the Seabury Center.

The Mountaineers (2-2) finally turned the corner on shooting, shooting their season high 46.7% from the field and 47.8% from beyond the arc. The Mountaineers were also 15-18 from the charity line, their highest this season. The Mountaineers also out-rebounded the Tigers, 49-40 and had 25 fast-break points.

The Mountaineers were led by junior guard Torell Carter (Whitesburg, KY), with a game high 25 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds. Carter shot 11-17 from the field and went 3-4 from the charity line. Sophomore guard Isaac Caudill (Blackly, KY) also contributed with his first double-double of the season, with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

The Pioneers were led by guard Keelan Kennedy with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Kennedy shot 7-23 from the field and 3-13 from beyond the arc. T.C. Wright was right behind his teammate with 19 points.

The Mountaineers struggled starting out the game, trailing the entire 1st half, going into halftime 39-27. However, in the second half, the Mountaineers began to make more shots, including the back-to-back 3 pointers by junior guard Terique Miller early in the 2nd half. The Mountaineers took the lead once they went on a 19-2 run in the beginning of the 2nd half.

Up next, the Mountaineers will play an exhibition against UVA-Wise Monday (Nov. 18) at UVA-Wise. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm. They will then come back home and host Johnson University Saturday (Nov.23). Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm at the Roland Wierwille Court.
