Mountaineers Outlast Pride in Shootout

BEREA, KY – The Berea College men's basketball team (7-5) defeated Greensboro College 99-96 in an electrifying game, coming down to the wire at the Seabury Center.

In this high scoring game, the Mountaineers shot 50% from the field and a nice 50% from the three-point line against The Pride. The Mountaineers went 26-36 from the free throw line and had 16 second chance points against Greensboro College's 13. Berea had 18 turnovers to Greensboro's 25.

Junior guard Torell Carter (Whitesburg, KY) led the scoring for the Mountaineers, scoring 23 points, registering 11 rebounds, and adding 3 assists. Carter shot 8-17 from the field and 6-11 from the free throw line. Isaac Caudill (Blackley, KY), had also had an impressive game, putting up 22 points and shooting an impressive 10-11 from the free throw line. Another standout player was Quae Charlton (Richmond, KY), pitching in 14 points and 3 assists off of the bench.

Greensboro College was led by Michael Phifer, who scored 23 points and added 17 rebounds. Following behind Phifer was Greyson Collins, who scored 17 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

The Mountaineers did not have an easy win, with 5 lead changes and 4 ties in the game. The Mountaineers had an impressive game with 5 people scoring in double-digits and a had a team total of 45 rebounds. Berea and Greensboro went into the half with the score all tied up at 40, but in the second half the Mountaineers scored 59 points to Greensboro's 56, ending the game at Berea (99) and Greensboro (96).

 

Up next, the Mountaineers will play Averett University at home (Jan. 12). Tipoff is slated for 1:00 pm.
