Berea Golfers Take 7th in Cumberland's Tournament

LONDON, KY- The Berea College golf team took to the links for 36 and 18 holes on Monday and Tuesday at the Crooked Creek Golf Course for the University of the Cumberland's 23rd annual SEKI Tournament, in London KY, finishing 7th out of 8 teams.

Monday was the team's first live tournament action in over six months, and the rust showed, as Berea found themselves 7th of 8 teams, 17 strokes behind Cincinnati Christian and 17 strokes ahead of Alice Lloyd. Mikey Scott and Austin Worley shot an 88 and an 89 respectively in the first 18 holes of the Mountaineer's outing.

The second 18 holes of the Mountaineer's day was much more rewarding for the Berea College linksmen, as Austin Worley shot 86 and Trevor Humes shot an 88. Ben Piercefield and Nate Metz both improved drastically from their first round, shaving 18 and 13 strokes off each of their scores. Berea finished the second round in front of Alice Lloyd by 36 strokes, but still found themselves in 7th place.

Tuesday's lone 18 holes proved problematic for Berea, but not to the point where they lost their immense lead over the Alice Lloyd College Eagles. Mikey Scott led the way in the third round by shooting a team-tournament best 81. Berea finished their match 26 strokes ahead of ALC, to claim 7th at the SEKI Tournament.

Expect the golf team to be back with much better scores next weekend, as they head to Delaware, OH, for the Strimer Memorial Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.
