Golfers Take 6th at the Asbury Shootout

Wilmore, KY - The Berea College Golf team was back in action at Connemara golf course in Lexington, Kentucky for the first annual Asbury Shootout, hosted by Berea College's former KIAC rival.

The first day for the golf squad did not get off to the start that they wanted, shooting 327 in their first round. Kevin Kim was the low man of the day, shooting 74. Austin Worley and Trevor Humes tied on the first day, both shooting 83. The team finished day one in last place of the 6 team tournament.

Day two showed much more promise for the linksmen, as they shot a collective 317 on the day, ten strokes better than their previous effort the day before, and enough to jump them from 6th place to 4th place for the day but at the end of the tournament the Mountaineers were still 6th overall. Kim again took the low man of the round, shooting 73 and putting him in the top 5 of the tournament.  Kim's great score shouldn't  overshadow, however, the awesome effort put forth by junior Austin Worley, who battled back to shoot 74 on day two, helping orchestrate the comeback by Berea to pass Bluefield College and Cincinnati Christian University.  Trevor Humes also improved to shoot an 81 on his second effort at Connemara.

The men will take 5 golfers to Indianapolis this Sunday and Monday for their next golf tournament.  Kevin Kim and Austin Worley are both in the top 10 in the USCAA for stroke average after the first week of the season. Kevin Kim also shot a hole in one on hole #7 during the Berea practice round on Sunday.

The Mountaineers will head to Franklin College on September 20-21 for the Franklin College Invitational.  For more information on the Berea College golf team, make sure to follow us on twitter at @BlueCrewNews.
