Mountaineers Compete in Piedmont Invitational

CLARKSVILLE, GA- Kevin Kim nearly overcame a 5 stroke deficit after day one of the Piedmont College Invitational earlier this week, and finished an impressive second place in the difficult tournament in Georgia, Kevin's home state.

The Mountaineers shot 344 on day one. While the high three scores for Berea struggled with the difficult terrain, Kim found himself shooting a 74 on the first day, even though he felt frustrated himself.  When asked about day one, Kim said, "It really was a case of me just having to hit greens. It was almost automatic- if I didn't hit a green, I'd bogey the hole. It was just the way the greens played- it was tough."

Berea bounced back significantly on day two, shooting 328 on their second go around. Austin Worley rebounded from a difficult day one to shoot 78 at the course, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. "I really didn't know how I was going to play after my first three holes," Worley stated, "I was five over (par) through three, and I played the rest of the course only one over- I just kind of figured it out."

Kim stayed consistent with his day one score, and finished with a 73 on the second try, putting him at 147 for the course total, and only three strokes back on the leader: Tommy Oliver from Sewanee. Kim finished second in the tournament, and was also awarded USCAA Player of the Week for his efforts on the links.

The golfers have a week off before their final tournament before nationals. They head to Crawfordsville, IN for a tournament at Wabash College on the 1st and 2nd of October.
