Kim Wins His Second Tournament of the Year

Crawfordsville, IN- In tough cold and windy conditions, the Berea College Golf Team took on 6 other teams in the Wabash College Classic where they finished 6th. This tournament marked the return of Senior Blade Hampton from a 12-month absence of competitive golf due to an injury he suffered this summer, as well as Senior Kevin Kim winning his 2nd tournament of the year.

Day 1- Senior Blade Hampton started off better than where we left off last fall by coming out and shooting an 83 on the first day. Kevin Kim helped lead the Mountaineers with Blade Hampton by firing a first round 74, which was good enough for him to finish 2nd and two shots back of Hanover's Aaron Wade. When asked about his return, Blade Hampton stated, "Man it's just great to be back on the course with the boys. It's been a tough recovery, but my elbow is starting to feel better and my swing is good as it has ever been." The Mountaineers shot 330 for the day.

Day 2- Senior Ryan Blevins helped lead the Mountaineers by firing an 81 on the second day to bounce-back strong from his 1st day woes. Kevin Kim was able to make up a 2-stroke deficit by firing a second round 70 and win the tournament by 7 strokes. When asked about his win, Kevin Kim stated, "Everything really just worked out this weekend. I'm blessed. I cannot tell you how many times I looked at [Coach] Milby and told him it's better to be lucky than good on this course." Freshmen Michael Akard also took a big step this weekend by putting up two solid rounds in the 80s this weekend, to help him finish T-21st, the best finish by a freshmen since Kevin Kim. The Mountaineers finished second on the day 2-strokes behind 38th ranked Hanover at 314.

The Mountaineers will be back in action this weekend at Mount. St. Joseph's invitational at Harrison, Ohio.
