Men's Soccer Cruises Past Johnson University

Anthony Ayebiahwe (JR/Elmina, Ghana)'s two goals leads the way for Berea College's 8-0 road win.

The Mountaineers went head to head with the Royals of Johnson University in Knoxville, TN on Tuesday night and Berea College proved they were the stronger team.

In the first half of the game, the Mountaineers managed to get off to a quick start with a 2-0 lead. The first goal came off the foot of freshman defender Chris Gaughan (FR/Newnan, GA) who scored on a crossing pass from Rafael Mendoza (JR/Phoenix, AZ). The second goal came from sophomore midfielder Million Beshah (SO/Atlanta, GA) at the 40 minute mark.

The offensive barrage truly began just a few seconds into the second half when junior midfielder Anthony Ayebiahwe scored a goal with an assist by Henok Kebede (SO/Stone Mountain, GA). At the 55 minute mark, a penalty kick was awarded  to senior forward Storie Ratcliff (SR/Rock Springs, WY), where he scored the 4th goal of the game. From then on, the goals just kept coming with Henok Kebede, Caleb Congrove (SO/Chillicothe, OH), and a second goal by Anthony Ayebiahwe.

Even freshman goalie Garrison Wagner (FR/Benton, KY) got in on the offensive action as he handed his gloves to Josh Wedding (SR/Louisville, KY), then scored, added two assists and still gets credited for the shutout.

The Mountaineers of Berea College will play their next game in Louisville, KY against the Golden Eagles of Spalding University on September 21st at 4:00 PM.
