Lexington, KY- The men's soccer team opened the 2017 regular season at the Transy Soccer Showcase hosted by Transylvania University. As part of the Showcase, Berea will play two contests, with the first game being play this afternoon and the second game being played tomorrow. The first game for the Mountaineers came against the host Pioneers.

The game started out rough for Berea as the offense was unable to find a rhythm and Transy was able to possess the ball for most of the half. The defense and goalkeeper played well enough to hold the hosts to just one goal as the halftime score was 1-0. After seeing the Pioneers score another goal five minutes into the second half, the Mountaineers took the zero away from their side of the scoreboard as Dakota Massucco scored a goal off a cross from Issac Mendoza. The momentum would not last for Berea though as the offense went stagnant and Transy went on to win the game 6-1. Goalkeeper Noah DeHart had 11 saves on 17 shots in the game and Massucco scored his first goal of the season.

The team returns to the field to conclude their play in the Transy Soccer Showcase as they take on Trine University at 12:00 PM. Live stats for the game can be seen here
