Men's Soccer Unable to Overcome Early Deficit Against Pfeiffer

Misenheimer, NC- The men's soccer team returned to the road today for their next game on the pitch. The team traveled to North Carolina to take on the Pfeiffer University Falcons, another newcomer to the USA South who is also reclassifying to NCAA Division III, meaning their games against conference opponents do not count in the conference standings for either team.

It was a rough outing for the Mountaineers in the opening segments of the game as the Falcons scored three goals in the first ten minutes of the game. The search for a goal to cut into the Pfeiffer lead was not found by Berea as the offense struggled to find its footing in the first half. The score moved to 4-0 as the halftime buzzer sounded.

Christopher Malpartida had the first chance at cutting into the Falcons' lead with his shot at the 48:26 mark in the second half, a shot which went wide. A second shot attempt from Malpartida was blocked as two more shots from Issac Domenech and Ubai Abulteaf later in the game missed as Pfeiffer went on to win the game 9-0. Noah DeHart was the goalkeeper for the Mountaineers, finishing the game with 13 saves on 22 shots on goal. Malpartida finished with two shots to go along with one shot each from Abulteaf and Domenech.

Berea will return to the road on Wednesday for their regular season finale. The final game comes against a conference opponent, Covenant College. First touch is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Information for live statistics and video can be found at the home for the Mountaineers, www.bereaathletics.com.
