RALEIGH, NC – The Berea men's soccer team traveled to William Peace University for their 7th in-conference game this season. Though Berea put up a strong defense in the first half, only allowing two goals, the Pacers fought hard and went on to win the game 6-1.

Berea had a rough start to the game, when goalie Clay Sheaffer received a red card just seven minutes into the game and was replaced by Nicholas Knoster. This gave the Pacers the opportunity to score their first goal, as they were given a free kick following the red card and Daniel Garcia converted for the 1-0 lead. The Pacers managed to get an additional goal before the end of the first half. At the 39:00 minute mark, Jorge Aguilar, assisted by Ivan Ponce, scored to bring the score to 2-0 heading into halftime.

The Pacers jumped right into the second half scoring their third goal three minutes in. Ivan Ponce scored back-to-back goals followed by a Jonathan Gares' goal. Ponce added his third of the game to complete the hat trick at 62:27 minute mark to bring the score to 6-0. Berea's offense wouldn't be stopped at the 88:28 mark, when Junior Gyamfi ended William Peace's shutout for an unassisted goal to close out the game.

Sheaffer finished with one save, while Knoster made three over 82:54. Their counterpart, Jacob Smith stopped two in the win.

The Pacers outshot Berea 16-5.

The Mountaineers will be back home Thursday, October 11 facing LaGrange College at 4:00pm at the Berea College Sports Complex.
