Men's soccer records shutout over Averett, 2-0

Berea, Ky. The Berea College men's soccer team took on Averett College at home Saturday afternoon. The Mountaineers' walked away with a 2-0 win over the Cougars for their first USA conference win. Issac Domenech and Joshua Szidik each scored for Berea, while Mountaineer goalie Clay Sheaffer recorded his second shutout of the season with five saves.

During the first half of the game, Berea started off strong taking ten shots compared to seven by Averett. Domenech scored the first goal for Berea at the 39:37 minute mark, which would take the teams into halftime with the Mountaineers holding on to 1-0 lead.  

Play evened out in the second half with both teams taking nine shots. At the 87:02 mark, Berea added a cushion to their lead when Szidik took a shot that fired past Cougar goalie Austin Bramhall. The goal sealed the 2-0 victory for the Mountaineers.

Berea edged Averett 19-16 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks.
