Berea earns 4-0 win over Boyce on senior night

Berea, Ky. The Berea College men's soccer team celebrated senior night with a win over Boyce College Thursday evening. The Mountaineers finished strong over the Bulldogs with a 4-0 victory. The seniors were recognized prior to the start of the game, include Pedro Herrera, Issac Domenech, Dorian Del Toro, Issac Mendoza, Ubai Abulteaf, and Kevin Coleman.

The Mountaineers started the first half off strong, making several attempts for a goal. At the 30:21 minute mark, Berea's hard work paid off when Junior Gyamfi scored against Boyce with an unassisted goal. The Mountaineers finished with 16 shots over the 45 minute period, while the defense kept the Bulldogs out of Berea's zone and didn't allow a shot the whole half. The Mountaineers took the 1-0 score into the locker room.

The energy remained high for Berea in the second half with three more goals. The first came at 60:40 on the clock, when Pedro Herrera made a pass into the box that connected with Gyamfi for his second goal of the night. Two minutes later, another Herrera pass resulted in a Berea goal from Dakota Massucco. At the 68:44 mark, a Herrera header put up the final goal with an assist from Joshua Szidik. The Mountaineers kept up the pressure the rest of the half that resulted in 24 total shots over the 45 minute span, while keeping the Bulldogs to four.

Berea recorded 40 shots during the contest and Boyce finished with four. The Mountaineers held the advantage, 10-0, in corner kicks.

Clay Sheaffer finished with one save, while his counterpart Jacob Sarquist stopped 12.

Next up, the Mountaineers will be traveling to N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday, October 20 where Berea will take on the Battling Bishops at 2:00 pm.
