BEREA, Kentucky – In the first game of the 1st annual Work College Tournament, hosted by Berea College, the Berea College Men's Soccer team held a clean sheet to defeat Blackburn College 4-0. The Mountaineers were led by freshmen Max Jr., who scored two goals in his first game for the Mountaineers and goalkeeper Luis Macias who kept a clean sheet in his first game for the Mountaineers as well.

This was the first game for both teams, with Berea College starting out the season as they did last year with a win over Blackburn College.

Berea dominated Blackburn throughout the game, outshooting them 35-6 in the game, while taking 13 corner kicks and conceding 0. The Mountaineers also held possession of the ball 64% of the time on the offensive end, and holding possession of the ball 55% of the game.

Freshman Christoff Mendy also tallied a goal for the Mountaineers while also being a focal point of the Mountaineers defense, and sophomore Joshua Szidik scored a goal as well late in the 2nd half to make the final score 4-0.

Sophomore Junior Gyamfi may not have scored for the Mountaineers, but he was the catalyst for the offense, taking 9 shots with 2 on goal, and assisting in Max Jr.'s first goal.

The Mountaineers will look to keep the momentum going, playing in the final match of the Work College Tournament, in the BC Sports Complex. Sunday, September 1st at 2 p.m.
