BEREA, KY., -- The Berea College Men's Soccer Team lost their first game of the season to Spalding University 3-1. The Men struggled to spark any offense throughout the game until the header by Freshman Christtoff Mendy in the 81st minute to make the score 3-1.

The Mountaineers were ambushed by the Golden Eagles to start the game, giving up the first goal of the game in the 4th minute to Clayton Henn. Then 15 minutes later in the 20th minute, the Mountaineers gave up the second goal of the game to Kornell Hillard on a corner kick. The rest of the half saw the Mountaineers play very defensively, trying to stop the very potent Golden Eagle's offense. In the 1st half, the Mountaineers were outshot 14-4. The Mountaineers also gave up 8 corner kicks in the half.

The second half saw the Mountaineers evening out possession totals, but were unable to capitalize on many of their offensive build-ups. The Mountaineers peppered the Golden Eagle's net 6 times, but only scored once on a header by Mendy in the 81st minute. The Mountaineers were again outshot 12-6, but only conceded one goal to Omar Mukoma in the 60th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Luis Macias ended the night with 9 saves.

The Mountaineers will be back in action this Saturday against Midway University.
