Berea Completes Comeback to Win 5-4

Midway, KY- The Berea men's soccer team traveled to Midway, Kentucky on Saturday to take on Midway University. The Mountaineers started out slow against their opponents the Eagles, quickly falling 3-0, but the men battled hard from behind to get their third win of the season against Midway 5-4.

 

At the start of the gane, Berea was slow out of the gate against Midway and they were quickly down 3-0 early on in the half. At the 4:49 minute mark, Midway scored their first goal by Alex Enzweiler. Soon after, at the 9:10 minute mark, Midway's Drew Blaydes scored their second goal with an assist from Cody Trenkamp. The third goal happened at the 11:29 minute mark by Brandon Ballard and he was assisted by both Max Noel and Alex Enzweiler. Berea soon began to pick up the pace and held Midway to their 3-0 lead for nearly the rest of the half. The Mountaineers scored two goals late in the half to keep the score close. At the 32:02 minute mark, Max Jr. scored the first goal of the half for the Mountaineers shortening the lead against their opponents. Soon after, at the 43:34 minute mark, Berea earned a goal off of a deflected shot by Midway and ended the half 3-2 with Midway only a goal ahead.

 

In the second half, the Mountaineers were unable to shut down the Eagles early. The Eagles scored a goal at the 48:22 minute mark by Drew Blaydes, extending their lead against the Mountaineers. However, Berea dominated the rest of the second half against Midway. At the 66:45 minute mark, Max Jr. scored his second goal of the game for the men. Following Max's goal, at the 72:51 minute mark, Junior Gyamfi scored for Berea and tied up the game 4-4. At the 87:02 minute mark, senior Bedginal Gondre broke the stalemate with his first goal of the season. This brought the end of the game with a hard fought victory for the Mountaineers.

 

Berea's Noah DeHart had seven saves, and Midway's Jared Howard had seven saves.

 

Midway had 16 shots versus Berea's 15, and Midway had a 5-4 advantage on corner kicks.
