Berea Shutout by Maryville

BEREA, KY., -- The Berea College Men's Soccer Team lost Tuesday against Maryville College (Tennessee) 5-0. The men struggled to get a clean look to get the ball in the goal, and as a result, Maryville had a lot of real estate to work with and was moving the ball down the field effectively. Freshman goalkeeper Luis Macias played good defense with a couple goal saves.

 

The Mountaineers got off to a rough start, as Johnny Rakhmonberdiev of Maryville scored the first (unassisted). The second goal was by Johnny Rakhmonberdiev again assisted by (Ryan Clift) The Scots played well offensively during the whole game, leaving The Mountaineers no choice but to play aggressive and take risks. The third goal was scored by Jace Burchfiel assisted by (Johnny Rakhmonberdiev). The fourth goal was scored by Johnny Rakhmonberdiev and it was (unassisted). Johnny Rakhmonberdiev had an MVP like game scoring three goals in the Scots Victory! The fifth goal was scored by Jorge Valdivia and assisted by (Davis Clothier).

The Mountaineers were not able to take many shots, as they played a defensively for the majority of the game. Maryville attempted 21 shots during the entire game, with 5 resulting in goals, and an impressive 8 were saved by goalie Luis Macias. Maryville had 13 total corner kicks.

 

The Mountaineers will be back in action Saturday at 2:00 PM against Pfeiffer at Home.
