Men's Tennis Go 1-2 in Weekend Action

Knoxville, TN/Westerville, OH- The Berea Men's tennis team was in full action this past weekend taking on Johnson University on Saturday and then Travelling to Otterbein University to play Otterbein and Capital University.

On Saturday, the men in a rematch against Johnson University were ready to play a very tight match. Doubles action began where Berea's number team Zachary White and Austin Worley defeated Johnson University 8-7 in a match that was highly contested. White and Worley trailed the entire match until they got a late break to get back on serve before breaking again to take the match 8-7. Berea's number two and three teams in similar fashion took their matches 8-6 and 8-7 respectively. That wrapped up doubles action with Berea taking a 3-0 lead into singles action.

Johnson University came back strong in singles taking wins at the number one, two, four and five spots over Berea. This brought the match to a tie with the last match at number six saw new comer Isaac Domenech pulling out a very crucial win 6-3, 6-3 to pull Berea past Johnson University with a 5-4 win.

On Sunday, Berea Men started against Otterbein University. In doubles action the number one team of White and Worley continued their fine doubles play with a third win in a row over the weekend over the top team of Otterbein with a 8-6 win. Otterbein then came back at number two and three with demanding 8-0 and 8-1 wins. Otterbein then took a 2-1 lead heading into singles action and continued to roll in singles with Berea's number one White winning the only singles match in an impressive 6-4, 6-2 win. With those singles win Otterbein took the contest 7-2.

In the last match of the evening Berea's Men took on Capital University who had defeated Otterbein on Saturday. Capital University came out fresh and strong taking all doubles matches which gave a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles. Austin Worley, Michael Malpartida, Avery Mathews and Isaac Domenech all played very good matches but eventually fell to the more experienced Capital University Team. Capital University ended up beating Berea 9-0.

Next Berea's heads to Linder Family Tennis Center on Thursday, April 13th, 2017 to take on Baldwin Wallace University. Then on Saturday, April 15th, Berea will get on the road again to take on Anderson University and Earlham College at Anderson University.
