Mountaineers Finish Sixth in Outdoor Season Opener

HICKORY, NC- This weekend The Berea college men's track team kicked off their outdoor seasons at the 2017 Lenoir-Rhyne Southside Power & Fitness Invitational.  The men's team finished 6th out of the 12 scoring teams at the invitational. 

In the Field events Sophomore Aaron Lange won the Javelin with a throw of 53.83m.  Senior Robin Hauschner finished 5th in the hammer throwing 38.32m.  Dave Bell scored in the High Jump with a 5th place finish. 

Corbin Flege and Layne Sinkhorn started the day off for the Mountaineers on the track in the 3k Steeple.  Corbin finished 3rd (10:28.89) and Sinkhorn was 4th (11:33.20).  Casey Monti and Kyle Young ran personal bests in the 1500m finishing 3rd (4:10.53) and 5th (4:14.68).  Tanner Carson shined in the 800m after returning from injury and running his first track race in almost a year.  His time of 2:01.04 placed him 8th overall.  Freshman Landon Bond and Dylan Watkins scored in the 5k finishing 5th (16:16.37) and 6th (16:21.9)

Dave Bell opened up his season in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.58 and finished 6th overall.  In the 100m Wesley Saintilnord and Aaron Effoe were the top finishers for the Mountaineers running 11.45 and 11.70.  Saintilnord also led Berea in the 200m with a time of 23.12. 

Berea also had a good showing in both the relays.  The 4x100 team of Zach Campbell, Wesley Saintilnord, Million Beshah and Samuel King finished 3rd overall.  Saintilnord joined Dave Bell, Tanner Carson and Ethan Harris in the 4x40om relay.  The 4x400 team finished 5th overall with a time of 3:35.93.   

The men's team will travel to Transylvania University on Saturday March 25th to compete in the Transy Pioneer Invitational.
