Men's Track and Field Continue PR Streak at the Cumberland Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, KY- Over the past weekend, the Berea College men competed in a two-day long track meet at The University of the Cumberlands. There were such a high number of PRs (personal records), that each individuals performance will be marked with (*) to indicate a PR for the athlete.

Friday, April 7th was the first day of the meet. The men placed in both field events and running events that evening. To kick start a weekend of running, the men's 4x800 team came in 3rd place with a time of 8:08.5. The team consisted of senior Casey Monti, sophomore Corban Flege, sophomore Logan McKenzie, and sophomore Tanner Carson. Meanwhile, Aaron Lange dominated the competition by throwing nearly 3 meters ahead of any other competitors. With a throw of 56.01m*, Lange placed first among a list of over 30 individuals.

Saturday, April 8th brought more competition and PRs. The morning's 5000 meter race consisted of 4 Berea men placing in the top 9. Coming in 4th with a time of 15:45.76* was freshman Landon Bond. Not too far behind Bond was sophomore Kyle Young (16:04.88)* and junior Dylan Watkins (16:09.81) who came in 6th and 7th. Senior Nathan Smith came in 9th with a time of 16:32.32*. Berea's finishers in the 3000m steeplechase were Corbin and Caleb Flege. Corbin (10:15.26) won the event, followed close behind in 3rd place by his brother Caleb (10:29.76)*.  The men's mid-distance competitors also brought some fierce competition to the 1500 and 800 meter run. In the 1500, Senior Casey Monti placed 4th overall with a time of 4:07.33* followed by 8th and 9th place finishers Logan McKenzie (4:16.48)* and Caleb Flege (4:17.04). In the 800 meter run, sophomore Tanner Carson (1:56.93*) placed 2nd and in 9th place was senior Casey Monti (2:00.33)*.

As for the men's sprints, Berea came out strong across the board. In the men's 400m hurdles, sophomore Dave Bell placed 4th with a time of 57.70. Senior Wesley Saintilnord placed 4th in the 200m dash (22.45)* and 7th in the 100m dash (11.11)*. The men's 4x100m sprint team placed 6th with a time of 45.37 consisting of senior Aaron Effoe, senior Wesley Saintilnord, senior Million Beshah, and freshman Zach Campbell. The men's 4x400m relay placed 6th overall with a time of 3:30.45. The team consisted of sophomore Dave Bell, senior Ethan Harris, sophomore Tanner Carson, and senior Casey Monti. Bell also placed 9th in the men's long jump with a final jump of 5.92m.

Next week on April 14, 2017, the men will compete in Danville, KY at the annual Centre Twilight meet.
