Mountaineers Light Up the Track with a 2nd Place Finish at the Centre Twilight

DANVILLE, KY – the Berea College's men's track and field team competed this past weekend at Centre College's annual Centre Twilight meet. The men finished with a total of 102 point and a 2nd place finish, beating out teams like EKU and Bellarmine. This is the men's 5th outdoor competition this season and the 2nd time competing on the Colonels' track. Personal records (PRs) will be indicated with (*) next to the performance time of each athlete.

The evening was opened up with the 3000m steeplechase. First place and runner-up were Berea's own Logan Mckenzie (10:0013)* and Corbin Flege (10:17.93). Not too far behind in 5th place was Caleb Flege who finished with a time of 10:49.65*. The men's 5000m run was dominated by 4 more Bereans. Freshman Landon Bond (15:44.60)* and junior Dylan Watkins (15:48.44)* finished 2nd and 3rd.  Junior Zach Raab (16:34.72)* and senior Nathan Smith (16:39.75) finished 5th and 7th overall. In the 5000m run alone these four men contributed 20 points to the team. The mid-distance events were also well-represented by the men. Senior Casey Monti (4:03.70)* and sophomore Kyle Young (4:06.71)* ran 3rd and 5th. Monti slipped in front of the 4th place finisher, Benecke from Ohio Christian Academy, by a mere 0.006 seconds: Benecke (4:03.697) and Monti (4:03.691)*. The nail-biters continued into the 800m run. Monti (2:00.55) and Young (2:01.87) finished 7th and 8th. It was sophomore Tanner Carson (1:54.98)* that took the event by storm by taking runner-up only 0.7 seconds behind Eastern Kentucky University's Thomas Koringo (1:55.92).

The sprints took the track by storm as well. In the men's 4x100m relay, seniors Aaron Effoe, Wesley Saintilnord, and Million Beshah, and freshman Zach Campbell ran a final time of 44.32 putting the Berea men in 4th place. The men's 4x400m relay placed 2nd overall with a time of 3:27.7. The team consisted of sophomore sophomore Dave Bell, sophomore Tanner Carson, senior Million Beshah, and senior Ethan Harris. Senior sprinter Wesley Saintilnord had his usual contribution of points scored this past weekend. Saintilnord had a 4th place finish in the 100m dash (11.10)* and a 6th place finish in the 200m dash (22.16)*, giving the men another 8 points. Hurdle events were led by sophomore Dave Bell who finished 4th in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 56.06. Austin Moore placed 8th in men's shot put with a final throw of 11.51* meters. Nicholas DeTore placed 8th in men's javelin throw with a final throw of 40.43 meters.

The men will compete in their next competition Saturday, April 22nd at Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY.
