LOUISVILLE, KY- The Berea College's Men's Track and Field team are coming close to wrapping up their outdoor season of competition. This past weekend they traveled to the Bellarmine University 2017 Classic in Louisville, Kentucky. With some steep NCAA Division II teams, there was no shortage of tough competition to bring out some of the fastest times of the year. Personal records (PRs) will be indicated with (*) next to the performance time of each athlete.
Distance made quite an appearance in the 5000m run and the 3000m steeplechase. In 15th, junior Dylan Watkins ran 15:50 in the 5000m race. In the 3000m steeplechase, sophomore Logan Mckenzie (9:48)* placed 3rd and junior Layne Sinkhorn (11:19) placed 6th. Men's mid-distance made an appearance in the 1500 with sophomore Caleb Flege (4:16.85) in 15th place. But it was the 800m run that was taken by storm by the Berea men. Sophomore Tanner Carson had the winning time of 1:57.81, followed by senior Casey Monti (2:00.23)* in 3rd.
Men's sprints didn't shy away from the competition either. The men's 4x100m relay team finished 2nd with a final time of 45.70. The team included seniors Aaron Effoe, Wesley Saintilnord, Million Beshah, and freshman Zach Campbell. The men's 4x400m relay placed 1st with a time of 3:30.60. The team consisted of seniors Ethan Harris and Million Beshah, and sophomores Dave Bell and Tanner Carson. Beshah (54.36) and freshman Samuel King (54.71) placed 8th and 9th in the men's 400m dash. Saintilnord and Effoe placed in both the 100m dash and the 200m dash with Effoe securing 15th in the 200m (24:50) and 10th in the 100m (11.85). Saintilnord led the men with two 5th place finishes in both the 200m (23.00) and the 100m (11.48). Sophomore Dave Bell breezed through the men's 400m hurdles with the winning time of 56.97. Senior Ethan Harris, not too far behind, finishing 5th with a time of 1:00.49.
As for field events, in the men's shotput, sophomore Aaron Lange (11.44m) placed 4th overall. He was followed by Austin Moore (10.61m) in 10th, freshman Richard Brayton (10.53m) in 11th, and freshman Tyler Harris (8.29m) in 15th. Lange won the men's javelin throw with a final throw of 51.77m and finishing in 3rd for the men was senior Robin Hauschner with a final throw of 38.99m. Hauschner led the men in the hammer throw in a 7th place finish with his final throw of 41.20m* followed by Austin Moore, throwing 19.79 for 13th place.
This final performance has concluded the official 2017 season for the mountaineer men, however, next week, certain qualifiers among the team's top performers will be able to continue competition post-season at the Redhawk Invitational at Miami University in Ohio.
