McKenzie Shatters 1500 meter Record to Win the Bellarmine Invitational

Louisville , KY – The men's track and field team competed at the Bellarmine Classic this Saturday, April 21st. The Mountaineers faired well against other competitive teams, and ended with a new school record in the 1500 meter race by Logan McKenzie at 3:51.57.

Various other performances also worth highlighting include freshman, Corey Carroll placed 3rd in the 100 meter dash, running a time of 10.91. He is currently ranked 38th in the nation (DIII) in the 100 meter dash. In the 400 meter dash, sophomore, Zachary Campbell ran 54.55 and earned 12th place.

Moving to the longer events on the track, in the 800 meter dash, Tanner Carson, junior, came across the line at 1:55.49, and with a 3rd place finish. Caleb Flege followed behind with a 2:03.41. Carson also raced in the 1500 meter dash where he placed 4th, and ended with a time of 3:56.46. Caleb Flege ran in 10th place and ran 4:13.31. Junior Kyle Young followed in 12th place with his time of 4:15.21. Corbin Flege competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase where he placed 3rd and ran 9:57.56. In the 5000 meter run, senior Zachary Raab ran 16:10, followed by Landon Bond with a 16:21.

On to field events, junior Dave Bell competed in the High Jump and jumped a distance of 1.73 meters. He finished in 12th place. In long jump, Aldrin Vinton, senior, ended with a 13th place finish and a distance of 5.70 meters. Vinton also competed in triple jump, where his distance of 11.30 meters earned him 11th place. Richard Brayton threw 29.86 meters in the discus and earned 9th place. Also in the discus were Jacob Beckman in 11th place (20.01 meters), and Tyler Harris in 12th (17.57).  In the shot put Brayton threw 11.54 meters, earning top spot for Berea throws, at 6th place. Harris threw 8.37 meters and got 13th place, and Beckman in 15th place with a distance of 7.06 meters.

Next week the men's team will take on the Atlantic Independent Championship at home, on Friday April 27th, and Saturday April 28th
