Men's T&F Finish 7th in Pioneer Invitational

LEXINGTON, KY- This weekend The Berea College men's track team took part in their second outdoor meet at the 2019 Transylvania University Pioneer Invitational.  The men's team finished 7th out of the 18 scoring teams at the invitational. 

 

In the Field events there were many great performances starting in the 100 meter dash, sophomore Corey Carroll ran an impressive 11.02 earning 2nd place. Finishing after him, in 30th place is junior Zach Campbell, running 12.04 seconds. Sophomore Bedjimal Gondre placed 35th, running 12.37, and sophomore Jared Pritt in 41st with a time of 13.18.

Corey Carrol also competed in the 200 meter dash, placing 6th and running 22.64 seconds. Also in the 200 meter dash, finishing 31st, 32nd, and 33rd were Dave Bell (24.12), John Ball (24.22), and Zach Campbell (24.35). Two athletes ran in the 400 meter dash, Dave Bell and John Ball, placed 24th and 25th, both running 54.42.

 

In the 110 meter high hurdles, freshman Damian Bowe placed 5th with his time of 16.41. He also competed in the 400 meter hurdles and ran a 1:02 placing him in 7th. Senior Corbin Flege finished the race in 11th place with a 1:06 finishing time. Flege also placed 3rd in the 3000 meter steeplechase where he ran 10:26.

 

Berea had 9 athletes running in the 800 meter dash. This group was led by freshman Sair Salgado, placing 3rd with a time of 1:59. Finishing 5th, 6th, and 7th were all Berea runners, led by freshman Jonathan West (2:00.33), junior Logan Mckenzie (2:00.51), and senior Tanner Carson (2:00.65). Other finishers for Mountaineers include sophomore Issac Domenech (23rd, 2:06.10), junior Landon Bond (24th, 2:06.13), freshman Gage Cousineau (27th, 2:07.10), freshman Tyler Little (34th, 2:08.23), and freshman Gabriel Johnson (37th, 2:09.09).

 

Logan Mckenzie was victorious in the 1500 meter run, with his time of 4:04. Tanner Carson followed in 5th place with 4:08. In 8th place was Landon Bond who ran 4:11. Tyler Little finished in 11th with his time of 4:13, followed by Gage Cousineau (19th, 4:19). In the 5000 meter run, finishing 4th is freshman Jose Villegas, completing in a time of 16:24. Kyle Young came in in 8th and ran 16:50. In 13th, freshman James Maguirk ran 17:37. 

 

Berea had two different teams competing in the 4 x 400 meter relay. The first team, who placed 8th and ran a time of 3:32, consisted of Tanner Carson, Issac Domenech, Sair Salgado, and Jonathan West. The second relay team placed 14th, and ran a time of 3:41, and their members were John Ball, Corey Carroll, Zackary Campbell, and Jared Pritt.

 

For the field events, Dave Bell placed 10th in the men's long jump, where he jumped 5.92 meters. John Ball followed in 15th place, with a jump of 5.59 meters. In shot put, junior Richard Brayton threw 12.60 meters and got 10th place. In hammer throw, Brayton threw 32.81 meters which put him in 19th place. Following Brayton, sophomore Dylan Angiolillo (26th, 22.55m) and sophomore Jacob Beckman (30th, 16.94m). Throwing in javelin and placing 8th, freshman Austin Weber threw 35.31 meters. Also in javelin, Richard Brayton threw 35.93 and placed 11th, Jacob Beckman threw 23.40 meters and placed 14th, and Dylan Angiolillo who threw 20.36 meters and placed 16th.

 

The men's team will travel to Centre College on Saturday, March 30th, to compete in the Centre College Invitational.
