Berea Competes in Centre Invitational

Danville, KY.- The Berea College Men's Track and Field Team travelled to Danville over the weekend to compete in the Centre College Invitational. The men's team scored a total of 56 points, finishing the meet in 7th place out of ten teams.

The men had two top ten finishes in the 100 meter dash with sophomore Corey Carroll winning the event in a time of 11. 37 seconds and freshman John Ball placing 9th in 12.02 seconds. Carroll also had a strong finish in the 200 meter dash finishing 4th in 23.47 seconds with Ball finishing 14th in 25.17 and junior Zach Campbell crossing the line in 25.69, placing 16th. The 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Ball, Carroll, Campbell, and freshman Steven Mickens, placed 3rd with a time of 45.28 seconds. Senior Dave Bell competed in the 400 meter hurdles placing 11th in 1:01.

The distance running events were kicked off with the 10,000 meter run where freshman James MaGuirk crossed the line in 38:05, finishing in 5th place. In the 5,000 meter run, freshman Gage Cousineau posted s strong 4th place finish finishing in 17:16. The Mountaineers dominated the 1500 meter race with 6 top 10 finishes. Freshman Sair Salgado won the event finishing in 4:07 with junior Logan McKenzie placing 3rd in 4:09. 20, freshman Tyler Little placing 4th in 4:09. 87, junior Tanner Carson placing 6th in 4:10, junior Landon Bond placing 7th in 4:13, and freshman Johnathon West placing 10th in 4:16. Senior Issac Domenech also earned a top ten placing finishing 10th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:06.

In the long jump Dave Bell finished in 10th place with a jump of 5.72 meters while John Ball jumped 5.64 meters to place 11th. Junior Ricky Brayton finished 14th in the shot put with a throw of 11.10 meters while sophomore Jacob Beckman threw 7.38 meters to finish 26th. Beckman also competed in the discus throw where he placed 22nd with a throw of 22.42 meters. In the hammer, sophomore Dyaln Angiolillo threw 24.37 meters to place 19th. Freshman Austin Weber was the lone Mountaineer to compete in the javelin where he finished 9th throwing 37.74 meters.

Next weekend the Mountaineers will travel to Greencastle, Indiana where they will compete in the DePauw Invitational on April 6th.
