Men's XC takes conference title for a second year

Maryville, TN. – The Berea men's cross country team hit the road to Maryville College to compete in the USA South Conference Championship on Friday. The Mountaineers dominated the competition to repeat as the USA South Conference Champions with a 16 point score, while Covenant took second scoring 58 points.  

The Mountaineers finished with five people in the top six. Tanner Carson was the first to cross the line, finishing in first place with a time of 26:24. Following close behind was teammate Logan McKenzie taking second with a time of 26:49. Third place was claimed by Sair Salgado (27:15) and close on his tail was teammate Tyler Little taking fourth place with a time of 27:16. Finishing up the score was Landon Bond in the sixth place spot with a time of 27:33 giving the team a total score of 16.

The Berea Mountaineers received multiple conference awards including Tanner Carson, Logan McKenzie, Sair Salgado, Tyler Little and Landon Bond were named to the USA South Conference first team by placing in the top seven. Avery Fair was named second team and Corbin Flege named third team. Sair Salgado was voted Rookie of the Year and Logan McKenzie was voted Runner of the Year, while Tanner Carson was named to the All-Sportsmanship team. Coach Shawn Jakubowski also received the men's cross country Coach of the Year award.

Next up for the Mountaineers is the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championship in Georgia. The race will take place on Saturday November 10.
