Berea Splits Double Header Against Mount St. Joseph
Berea, KY- For the second day in a row, Berea softball played a home game, this time against the Mount St. Joseph Lions.
Berea won the first game 3-2. The Mountaineers scored early in the first inning. Then Mount St. Joseph took a very brief lead in the top of the third by scoring two runs, but Berea answered back by scoring two runs when it was their turn to bat in the bottom of the third, putting Berea back ahead by one. Both teams would go scoreless the rest of the game.
Second baseman Lilian Setters scored one run and third baseman Hannah Carter scored two runs. Berea had a team total of 7 hits during the first game.
First baseman Taylor Flowers, centerfielder Morgan McClure, and pitcher Kaitlyn Blair each got 1 RBI.
Blair pitched the whole game and had 7 hits, 2 runs, 1 of which was earned, 3 strikeouts, and only allowed 1 walk.
Looking to keep their winning streak going into the second game, Berea found themselves trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the first inning. While Berea was able to keep the final score low, they were also unable to take the lead during the game. At the top of the second inning, the Lions scored off of an error by Berea's pitcher, Taylor Flowers.
Then at the bottom of the third, Kourtney Parker hit a homerun. This was her second homerun in two days with the first one being against Franklin less than 24 hours previously.
The next few innings would be fast paced and swift. There were only two hits, one by Berea and one by Mount St Joseph, until the top of the 7th inning. Then, a homerun by Mount St. Joseph with runners on base allowed them to score 2, leaving the score 4-1. Unfortunately, after that it was a quick 3 outs for their pitcher.
Taylor Flowers pitched the entire game on the mound for Berea, giving up 10 hits and 4 runs, three of which were earned, while striking out three and only allowing one walk. Parker led the way on offense for the Mountaineers, taking the only run, the only RBI, and two hits. The team finished with six hits total.
The Mountaineers have a long weekend this upcoming weekend as they will travel Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The first game on Friday is at Saint Mary of the Woods College, a USCAA opponent, and the first pitch will be thrown at 3:30.
