Softball Wins Two in Midweek Doubleheader Against the Eagles

Berea, KY- Berea College softball team won both games against the Asbury Eagles in a midweek doubleheader to continue their season.

In the top of the first the Eagles earned 0 runs with 0 hits. In the bottom of the first for the Mountaineers Setters singled, followed by Lanham's single. Setters and Lanham both advanced one base do to a passed ball. Mercedes Stanfield singled which scored Setters and moved Lanham to third. Parker singled which brought Lanham. Parker and Stanfield were left on base to end the inning. In the top of the second the Eagles scored 2 runs on 2 hits. In the bottom of the second for the Mountaineers Garcia-Maldo was walked, followed by Nash being hit by a pitch. They would be left on base to finish the inning. In the top of the third for the Eagles they scored 2 runs off 2 hits. During the bottom of the third inning the all three Mountaineer batters would get out. In the top of the fourth inning the Eagles would score no runs with one hit. In the bottom of the fourth the Mountaineers next three batters all got out. In the top of the fifth for the Eagles they scored 0 runs with 0 hits. In the bottom of the fifth the Mountaineers all got out. In the top of the sixth for the Eagles they scored 0 runs on 0 hits. For the Mountaineers in the bottom of the sixth inning Mercedes Stanfield singled where she would be left on base for the rest of the inning. In the top of the seventh inning the Eagles scored 0 runs with 0 hits. In the bottom of the seventh inning Nash singled, followed by Setters reaching first on an error. Nash advanced to third base on the error, followed by Lanham's single that scored Nash and advanced Setters to second base. Mercedes Stanfield then got a hit and scored Setters and Lanham to win the game.

The Mountaineers beat the Eagles 5-4 in the first game of the double header. To lead the Mountaineers Mercedes Stanfield had 3 hits. Jacquie Howard picked up the win in the circle for the Mountaineers.

In the top of the first the Eagles scored 0 runs on 0 hits. In the bottom of the first for the Mountaineers Nash singled followed by Setters single where Nash advanced to third. Setters stole second while Nash scored on the throw down to second. Stanfield walked followed by Parkers RBI that scored Setters. In the top of the second inning the Eagles scored 0 runs with 2 hits. In the bottom of the second inning Hackney reached second on an error. Nash singled to score Hackney. In the top of the third inning the Eagles scored 1 run on 1 hit. In the bottom of the third inning the Mountaineers first three batters got out. In the top of the fourth for the Eagles they scored 0 runs with 1 hit. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Mountaineers would have no hits. In the top of the fifth inning the Eagles scored 0 runs on 1 hit. In the bottom of the fifth inning the Mountaineers first three batters would get out. During the top of the sixth inning the Eagles would score 0 runs with 1 hit. In the bottom of the sixth inning the Mountaineers Lanham would single and advance to third on the next two batters outs. Parsons would single scoring Lanham which finished out the inning. In the top of the seventh inning the Eagles would score 1 run on 1 hit.

The Mountaineers would once again beat the Eagles, this time 4-2. Nash would lead the Mountaineers with two hits. Parsons, Setters, and Lanham had one hit each. Markiara Smith would pick up the win in the circle this game for the Mountaineers.

The Berea College softball team has a two day break and then travels to Alice Lloyd on Saturday with the first game at 2 and the second game to follow.
