Softball Comes Up Short in Home Doubleheader to Midway

Berea, KY- The Berea College softball team faced Midway College this Tuesday for a doubleheader.

In game one both teams started out slow as no team scored until the top of the fourth inning where Midway scored 3 runs on 1 hit and a Mountaineers error. In the bottom of the fourth inning Setters singled but she was left on base as the rest of the Mountaineers got out. In the top of the fifth inning the Eagles tacked on 2 more runs while the Mountaineers finished out the inning scoreless. In the top of the seventh inning the Eagles scored 1 more run and while Mercedes Stanfield singled in the bottom of the seventh inning the Eagles would win. The Mountaineers lost the first game to the Eagles 6-0.

Mercedes Stanfield and Setters each had one hit for the Mountaineers and Howard took the loss in the circle.

In the second game of the day the Eagles started off hot scoring 3 runs on 4 hits in the top of the first inning. Nash and Stanfield reached base on an error followed by Parkers single that scored Nash which would finish out the inning. In the bottom of the second inning the Mountaineers tacked 1 more run on the board by Madison Stansfield's single and Howard reaching on an error. Nash then reached on an error which scored Stanfield. In the top of the third inning the Eagles scored 3 runs on 3 hits and 1 error. The Mountaineers followed suite with 1 run in the bottom of the third. Parker was hit by pitched followed by Parsons double and Smith reaching on a fielder's choice which scored Parker. The Eagles added 3 more runs in the top of the fourth inning that was not reciprocated by the Mountaineers. In the bottom of the fourth inning Nash and Setters singled but the Mountaineers remained scoreless. Neither team scored in the fifth inning. During the top of the sixth inning the Eagles scored 5 runs on 4 hits and 1 error. To finish out the game Nash singled in the bottom of the sixth inning. Midway College beat the Mountaineers 14-3 on a run rule.

Nash led the Mountaineers with 2 hits. Nash, Parker, and Smith each picked up 1 RBI. Smith took the loss in the circle.

The Mountaineers are back in action this Saturday at home against Oakland City. This will be the Mountaineers Senior day as well.
