Maryville, TN- Berea headed south to take on Maryville and Covenant on opening weekend. Berea College lost to Covenant college 9-0 in the first game of the season. The Mountaineers held off the Scots in the first inning. Following that the Scots scored 9 runs in the remaining innings. Nash, Mattingly, and Shivel all had singles to lead the Mountaineers in batting. Howard got the loss in the circle with 12 hits given up.
The Mountaineers played Maryville College following this game. Berea College lost 17-0 to Maryville College. The Scots started out strong scoring 9 runs in the first inning and finishing the game with 8 more. Dowdell, Setters, Parker, and Hackney all had singles to lead the Mountaineers in batting. Parker and Baker took the loss in the circle.
Berea was scheduled to play Maryville and Covenant on Saturday but both games were canceled due to weather.
The Mountaineers are back in action next Saturday when they take on Hiwassee College for a double header starting at 1.
