1st game

Score: Midway 9, Berea 5

Records: 0-1, 5-2

Berea, KY.- Berea College opened up their season with a double-header against the Midway University Eagles. The Mountaineers lost the first game 9-5, with the pitching and defense letting down the Mountaineers.

The game was a back and forth game until the 5th inning, where Midway University was able to score 4 runs to bust the game wide open. The middle of the line-up for the eagles were able to drive in all 4 runs on three hits. Overall, the Eagles were very efficient in driving in runs this game, only leaving 5 left on base, compared to the Mountaineers 9.

Freshman Kara Winchester started the game, giving up 8 runs, all earned, and Senior Jacqui Howard game in to relieve her in the 5th inning, only giving 1 run, 0 earned. Both pitchers had two strikeouts and two walks. On offense, the Mountaineers were led by Sophomore Savannah Fallis, who had 3 hits and scored 2 of the 5 runs for the Mountaineers.

2nd game

Score: Berea 5, Midway 4

Records: Berea 1-1, Midway 5-3

BEREA, Ky. – Berea fought long and hard although they fell short in the first matchup with Midway. The comeback was inevitable as the Mountaineers fought to the finish leading Berea to a 5-4 win Tuesday evening in Berea.

In the second matchup with the Eagles, Berea lead 3-0 in the bottom of the first with a Triple to right field by Abby Nash, who pushed Jacqui Howard and Ashley Spencer across the board, scoring two RBI's. Mattie Shivel popped up to center on a sacrifice fly ball scoring Abby Nash. Annalise Hackney reached on a fielder's choice where Savannah Fallis scored.

For the Eagles K. Horn had one RBI. B.Wooks hit a single to right field in the top of the fifth scoring two. While D. Lewis doubled to center field scoring B. Woods in the top of the fifth.

The Mountaineer's offense was led by junior Abby Nash, who drove in 3 runs, and freshman Ashley Spencer, who had 3 hits and scored 2 runs.

The Berea Mountaineers will be back in action this Friday March 1st at 1:00 and 3:00 P.M
