Berea Splits Double Header with Wesleyan

The Mountaineers took on Wesleyan College Sunday Afternoon where they split their first conference games.

In the first game the Wolves started out the top of the first inning strong scoring 4 runs. The Mountaineers battled back in the bottom of the first inning scoring 5 runs to take the lead of the game. Nash doubled which scored Spencer and Howard, followed by an RBI from Lindsey which scored Nash. Shivel doubled scoring Fallis and Hackney singled scoring Shivel. The Wolves added on four more runs during the second and third inning while the Mountaineers were not able to earn any more runs. Wesleyan was able to add four more runs throughout the game while the Mountaineers added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Mountaineers lost 13 – 8 in the first game of the day.

Fallis lead the Mountaineers with 3 hits followed by Howard, Nash, Lindsey, Hubbard, and Hackney who added 2 hits for the Mountaineers. Winchester took the loss in the circle.

In the second game of the double header the Wolves took the lead during the first two innings scoring 2 runs. Spencer hit a homerun in the bottom of the third followed by Lindseys double. This put the Mountaineers in the lead by scoring 4 runs. The Mountaineers were able to earn four more runs off a series of hits in the fourth inning to continue the lead. Wesleyan scored one run in the 6th inning. Hubbard hit a homerun in the bottom of the 6th inning to end the game. The Mountaineers won 9-3 over Wesleyan.

Hubbard led the Mountaineers with 3 hits followed by Spencer, Howard, and Lindsey who each had 2 hits of their own.

 

The Mountaineers will be back in action Tuesday March 12th as they travel to Brevard College.
