In the first game of the double header, both the Mountaineers and the Hawks played great defense. Neither team was able to earn a run until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Hawks earned two run off of three hits. During the bottom of the fifth inning the Hawks were able to tack on one more run from two hits. Kendra Hubbard scored the Mountaineers lone run in the top of the seventh inning when she hit a homerun over center field. The Mountaineers fell to the Hawks 3-1.
The Mountaineers were led by Hubbard's homerun. Hackney and Lindsey each had one hit.
Howard took the loss in the circle.
The second game of the day the Hawks started the game by scoring two in the bottom of the first inning off one hit. In the top of the fourth inning the Mountaineers gained their lone run of the game. Howard got on base by singling to left center, followed by Hackney who walked. Hallie Mattingly laid down a squeeze bunt to score Howard and gain an RBI. In the bottom of the sixth inning the Hawks added their last run of the game from two hits. The Mountaineers fell to the Hawks 3-1.
Spencer, Lindsey, Fallis, Howard, Winchester, Hackney, and Mattingly all had one hit for the Mountaineers.
Winchester took the loss in the circle.
The Mountaineers are back in action Monday, April 1 as they travel to Asbury University to take on the eagles on a Monday night double header.
